Carlyss is a census-designated place rather than an incorporated town — about 5,100 residents, no city hall of its own, and a mix of subdivision lots and larger parcels along the highway and the roads running off it.

How a yard drainage problem gets diagnosed
Before anybody quotes you a number, these are the things that need looking at. If a contractor skips straight to a price without them, be careful.
- Where the water is coming from — your roof, your yard, the road, or the property uphill of you
- Where it is currently trying to go, and what is stopping it. Often it is a high spot nobody noticed, or a drive that acts as a dam
- What the fall actually is across the yard, measured rather than eyeballed. An inch over a long run is easy to get wrong by eye
- Where it can legally and practically be sent — a ditch, a swale, a culvert crossing
- Whether the fix is grading, or whether it needs a structural solution that is outside what regrading will do

- Can you guarantee my yard will never hold water again?
- No, and be cautious of anyone who does. What we can do is measure what is happening, fix what grading can fix, and tell you plainly if part of the problem sits outside your property or outside what dirt work solves.
- Will regrading kill my grass?
- Where we regrade, yes — that ground gets disturbed. We can often stockpile and reuse topsoil so the finished surface is something grass will re-establish in. Agree the finished condition with us up front, including whether you want it seeded or left ready for you to handle.
- Who do I ask about drainage rules here?
- Carlyss is unincorporated, so it is the parish rather than a city office. Calcasieu Parish is the right place to confirm anything about ditches, rights-of-way and what is permitted at your specific address. We are not going to state a requirement we have not verified for your property.
- My neighbor's water runs onto my land. Can you stop it?
- Sometimes the practical fix is on your side of the line and sometimes it is not. There can also be a legal dimension to redirecting water toward someone else, which is a question for an attorney and not for a contractor. We will tell you what is physically possible and where the conversation needs to move past us.
- Is it worth fixing drainage before I sell?
- Standing water is one of the first things a buyer notices and one of the easiest things for an inspection to flag. Whether the return justifies the spend depends on the property. We buy and improve property ourselves, so we are happy to give you a straight opinion rather than just a quote.
